From our family to your family

Delipap Oy is a family-owned company that has been serving the Finnish people since 1979. Our most well-known products are Moomin Baby baby diapers, Vuokkoset menstrual covers and Helmi hygiene products. We are proudly a finnish, responsible and constantly looking forward improving our company and offering in order to provide the best skin-friendly and environmentally responsible options for the whole family.

The Diaper for future generations

Moomin Baby’s story started in 1979. Unsatisfied with the diapers on the market, our father Raimo developed his own exceptionally skin-friendly diaper for our brother Oskari. Since then, we’ve been making diapers for our own children and grandchildren. So why not for everyone? With our love and commitment, we believe Moomin Baby isn’t just for our children, but for all future generations.

From the beginning, we’ve done things differently. Always with the deepest respect for the environment and our planet. But don’t just take our word for it. Over the years, we’ve gained several certificates to prove it. We’ve proudly continued our father’s legacy. Today all Moomin Baby diapers are completely carbon neutral and meet strict environmental criteria. They’re still developed and produced at our family-owned factory in Southern Finland, using only renewable energy.

We carefully design and select all raw materials to make Moomin Baby diapers the best choice – not just for the comfort of babies everywhere, but for the convenience of their parents and the planet too.

The origin of Finnish diapers

Our company’s unique story dates back to 1979, when Raimo Nuortie, a father of young children and a paper industry expert, decides to develop the most skin-friendly diaper on the market for his sensitive baby boy.

Nuortie opens the first factory in Nummela, Vihti Finland, to manufacture domestic baby diapers using a new patented idea. The diapers are made using only new clean paper, which, when crushed, forms a so-called soft-sheet texture. This new texture ensures that moisture is evenly distributed inside the diaper.

Right from the start, we set ourselves apart from the competition with skin- and environmentally-responsible products that deliver quality and durability in a class of their own. We have been a member of the Association for Finnish Work from the very beginning and we are permitted to use the Key Flag as a sign that our diapers are made in Finland.

Moomin diapers see the light of day

Our diapers were launched under the Moomin Baby brand in 1991, bringing the beloved Moomin characters to both the packaging and the diapers themselves.

Our founder, Raimo Nuortie, was a passionate art collector who recognized a strong connection between the values reflected in Tove Jansson’s Moomin stories and those of our company. Respect for nature, equality, kindness, and tolerance have been at the heart of Moomin stories for generations, and these same principles continue to guide our work today.

More than three decades later, these values remain an integral part of everything we do, from developing our products to caring for families and the world they will grow up in.

Certified safety

In 1997, Moomin Baby became the first diaper brand in the world to receive the right to use the approval symbol of the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation. This recognition confirms that our diapers are free from fragrances, lotions, colorants, and other ingredients that may cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Since 2006, we have carried the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on our products as one of the first diaper manufacturers to do so. For us, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel represents a minimum standard for product safety and environmental performance. We continuously improve our products and manufacturing processes to reduce their environmental impact in line with our sustainability goals.

In 2010, Moomin Baby transitioned to certified electricity generated from hydropower for our manufacturing operations. Hydropower is a renewable energy source with no direct carbon dioxide emissions during electricity generation. Since 2021, part of the energy used in our production has also been supplied by a nearby solar park located next to our factory in Tammisaari, Finland.

Our goal is to bring a sense of nature to the consumption of welfare products, while leaving a valuable legacy for future generations.

The era of the pant diaper begins

We made our first investment in a Nordic pant diaper machine in the early 2000s, and launched Moomin Walkers pant diapers the very next year in 2001. Today, the pant diaper is the most popular segment due to its easy wearability and is better known as Pants.

In 2014, we made a major investment into a new tape diaper machine, which increased our production capacity and created new jobs at the Tammisaari factory. The new machine allowed for even more comfortable Moomin diapers and a broader range of variety. The Moomin family range was extended to include the Newborn size. We launched it under the name Muumi Baby.

In 2026, we are making history in our family’s journey with the launch of an entirely new and innovative diaper pant. This breakthrough product redefines diapering by introducing a truly unique all-in-one diaper pant that combines the convenience of a pant diaper with the adjustability of a taped diaper. The result is an exceptional diaper designed to provide a more comfortable and flexible fit for growing children. This innovation is the outcome of years of product development, extensive consumer testing, bold ideas, and the construction of a brand-new production line designed specifically for this product.

Reducing climate impact starts with manufacturing

In spring 2021, our diaper factory switched to more sustainable production by introducing solar energy. The solar energy comes directly from Raasepori Energy’s solar park, which is located next to our diaper factory in Tammisaari.

The carbon footprint of Moomin Baby diapers has been calculated in accordance with the ISO 14067:2018 standard, covering almost the entire product life cycle. The assessment includes raw material production, diaper manufacturing, energy use, transport to wholesale distribution, and end-of-life waste management.

Our priority is to reduce the climate impact of our products throughout the value chain. The remaining greenhouse gas emissions within the scope of the assessment are offset by supporting the National Solar Power Development Programme in India through the United Nations Carbon Offset Platform.

We continuously improve our products and manufacturing processes to reduce their environmental impact through responsible choices and ongoing development. We are constantly working on reducing the carbon footprint of diaper packages even further. Today, our diaper packages contain 60 % of recycled plastic.

Diaper packages contain 60% of recycled plastic

Our diaper packages are made from 60 % of recycled plastic, which is collected during the bag manufacturing process. The top and middle layers of the three-layer bags are made entirely from recycled plastic. The innermost layer is made from traditional fossil-based plastic until we find a viable solution for using recycled plastic to protect the diaper products from temperature and moisture fluctuations during transport and storage. Product safety is our top priority.

Moomin Baby brand is renewed

In 2023, the Moomin Baby brand underwent a major redesign with a fresh new green look for its diaper packaging. This new look enhances brand visibility and recognition but also makes it easier to differentiate between diaper sub ranges with colour coding.

As part of this change, the brand name changed from Muumi Baby to an international format, Moomin Baby, in response to increasing export sales. Moomin Baby diapers are now also globally carbon neutral in the export market.

Pant diaper revolution is here!

Moomin Baby is pushing boundaries and making a significant investment in new machinery for its diaper production line at the Tammisaari factory Finland. The product development project began in 2017–2018, when it was time to start planning the renewal of the machine fleet. After lengthy deliberation, we decided to launch something truly unique and innovative on the European market, something that no one could have expected. The new Moomin Baby Snap Pants diaper saw the light of day for the first time in the fall of 2025, and the product will be available to consumers during 2026.

The new Moomin Baby Snap Pants combine the best features of pants and tape diapers. This reclosable pant diaper is one of a kind in Europe! It is full of the most innovative practical solutions for more convenient everyday diapering. Snappy! We would say.

Respecting traditions, looking towards the future

Today, we remain Finland’s only manufacturer of disposable baby diapers and feminine care products. Delipap Oy is still owned by the Nuortie family, and the company continues to be guided by the same values on which it was founded nearly five decades ago. Around 60 dedicated professionals work at our factory every day to create high-quality products, advance responsible manufacturing, and develop innovations that make everyday life easier for families.

The next chapter of Delipap’s growth is led by a Chief Executive Officer who joined the company from outside the family, bringing new expertise and experience to support our growth ambitions. Sanna Karhu serves as Deputy CEO and is responsible for manufacturing, working alongside Riikka Nuortie, who leads product development. Oskari Nuortie, whose sensitive skin inspired the founding of our family business, has stepped back from day-to-day operations and now continues to support the company’s future as a member of the Board of Directors and an active representative of the owning family.

The next generations are already helping to shape our future. Emilia Nordström represents the third generation involved in the business, while the fourth generation is enthusiastically testing the Moomin Baby diapers first developed by their great-grandfather, continuing a story that began with one baby’s sensitive skin and has been passed down from one generation to the next.
