Crafted with Care, Made with Love

Genuinely Finnish

Over 47 years of Finnish diaper manufacturing expertise in Tammisaari, Finland💚.

Trusted and Recognized

Recognized by trusted third-party certifications.

Responsible production

We recycle all production waste generated in production or recover it as energy.

Renewable energy sources

Moomin Baby diapers are manufactured using certified hydroelectric and solar energy.

For us, even small actions make a big difference when it comes to nature.

At Moomin Baby, we strive to make thoughtful choices throughout our manufacturing process. Our diapers are certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, whose criteria cover the product’s environmental requirements from raw materials and manufacturing to waste management. Our products are also approved by the Finnish Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation, recognising their suitability for sensitive skin.

Renewable electricity in our production Our production uses electricity generated from renewable energy sources. Solar electricity is supplied directly from the nearby solar park operated by Raaseporin Energia, while the remaining electricity is sourced from certified hydropower. This solution is estimated to reduce our production-related carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 285 tonnes of CO₂ per year. This corresponds to the annual heating energy of around 100 electrically heated detached houses or driving approximately 1.4 million kilometres in a petrol-powered passenger car.

Making the most of production waste We continuously work to reduce the amount of waste generated in our production. The majority of our production waste is recycled or recovered as energy rather than being sent to landfill. Moomin Baby diaper packaging contains 60% recycled plastic, and we continuously develop our packaging solutions to increase the use of recycled materials wherever feasible. We encourage consumers to recycle empty diaper packaging with plastic packaging waste in accordance with local recycling guidelines.

We manufacture diapers with over forty five years of experience and employ around 60 Finnish professionals in our diaper factory in Southern Finland.

Sanna Karhu, former user and current diaper maker as Managing Director of the family company

Reducing climate impact starts with manufacturing.

At Moomin Baby, we believe that protecting our children’s future starts with the choices we make today. That’s why we continuously improve our diaper manufacturing processes and work to reduce the climate impact of our production.

We have calculated the carbon footprint of Moomin Baby diapers across their entire life cycle, covering raw material production, diaper manufacturing, energy use, distribution, and end-of-life waste management. The carbon footprint has been calculated in accordance with the ISO 14067:2018 standard. We use these results to continuously improve both our products and manufacturing processes, helping to reduce their climate impact.

Measuring our carbon footprint enables us to identify the most significant sources of greenhouse gas emissions and focus our efforts where they can have the greatest impact. This allows us to reduce the climate impact of our products in a systematic and transparent way.

With love from Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari

Moomin Baby diapers are made with 100% renewable energy in the scenic Tammisaari Finland. Our diaper factory switched to renewable certified hydroelectric power over 10 years ago, and in spring 2021 we also introduced solar energy. Solar energy comes directly to the factory via our own power cables from Raasepori Energy’s solar park, which is located right next to our diaper factory. By working together, we can achieve the best results and together we can influence what we leave behind for future generations. All our employees share a value base of courage, learning and respect for our shared nature.

It is important for us that the diapers come from nearby. That’s why we invest in our own production, product development and professional staff. We have implemented a major investment project at our diaper factory in Tammisaari, which will employ more and more mothers and fathers for the benefit of little tots. Finnish production and employment are part of our social responsibility.

A big plus for Moomin Baby diapers for their domesticity.

Frequently asked questions about our diapers

See all questions about our products and activities from Frequently Asked Questions page.

The absorbent core of Moomin Baby diapers is made from FSC® certified, totally chlorine-free (TCF) wood cellulose, which makes them suitable for energy waste and incineration, as they do not emit harmful emissions into the atmosphere. It is not recommended to dispose of chlorinated diapers by incineration, as incineration can produce toxic gases. However, not all incinerators accept any diapers, as some of our competitors still use chlorine-bleached diapers. We therefore recommend that you ask the incinerator in your area about their policy and whether they accept non-chlorinated diapers for incineration.

You can also dispose of Moomin Baby diapers in the normal way with mixed waste. Whichever way you dispose of Moomin Baby diapers, we can say that our diapers are an environmentally responsible choice among other disposable diapers. We have designed the life cycle of our diapers to have the least possible impact on the environment. The main raw material for Moomin Baby diapers is degradable cellulose, made from domestic FSC-certified forests. We also try to always choose Nordic raw material manufacturers and do not add any unnecessary chemicals such as fragrances or oils to our diapers.

Finished diapers are packed in a packaging bag made from 60% recycled plastic, which you can sort for plastic recycling. Moomin Baby diapers are also made in Finland, so trips from factory to store shelf are short. We want to leave a clean and beautiful nature for future generations.

FSC®, the Forest Stewardship Council, is the world’s first international forest certification system that promotes environmentally sound and responsible forest management. The FSC® certification for Moomin Baby diapers is one of our contributions to sustainable development, social responsibility and responsible forest management.

The main raw material for all Moomin Baby diapers is FSC®-certified cellulose from FSC®-certified Finnish coniferous forests. Domestic forestry does not use chemical pesticides such as glyphosate to control water bugs so the cellulose used in our diapers is safe for your baby. This means that, like responsible forestry, new trees are grown to replace the ones that have been cut down. By choosing Moomin Baby diapers, you are helping to protect the biodiversity of northern forests. Read more about the FSC® on their website.

The Key Flag is a sign that products are made in Finland and employ Finnish workers. The Key Flag is a registered Community trademark and it reliably proves that the product is Finnish. Moomin Baby diapers are the only Finnish diapers and are manufactured in Finland’s only diaper factory in Tammisaari, Southern Finland. By favouring finnish sourcing, you create jobs in Finland and minimise emissions from transport, among other things. Choosing our product is therefore a responsible act. You can find out more about other Key Flag products here.

The Allergy Label can be awarded by the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation to impartial, tested and safe baby diapers. The label guarantees that the products are safe and meet strict product-specific criteria. Allergy-labelled baby diapers must not contain any fragrances, scents or other easily irritating or sensitising substances. Moomin Baby diapers are hypoallergenic and suitable for babies with sensitive skin.

The criteria for the Nordic Swan ecolabel are based on the life cycle of the product, from raw material selection to product disposal. The purpose of the Nordic Swan ecolabel is to ensure that the product is environmentally responsible, taking into account the production process, product use and waste management. The Nordic Swan ecolabel has set precise and strict criteria on what the diapers can contain and what can be added during the production process. Swan-ecolabelled products must not contain any substances that are harmful to the consumer’s health or the environment. The materials used in the diapers must also be produced with minimum emissions without harming the environment. Swan-ecolabelled products must not contain any unnecessary added chemicals such as creams or perfumes. Find out more about the Nordic Swan ecolabel criteria here.

During our production process, landfill waste is recycled or incinerated for new energy. Furthermore, the production of Moomin Baby diapers does not result in any harmful emissions to air or water. We only use solar energy and certified hydro-electricity. These renewable energy sources do not emit any carbon emissions into the environment.

At Moomin Baby, we are committed to doing our part for future generations by continuously aiming to reduce the environmental impact of our production and products. Read more about our sustainability credentials. We also use the heat generated in the production process to heat the production hall. Moomin Baby diapers are also made in Finland, making trips from factory to store shelves and homes much shorter. Also, remember to wean your baby from diapers sooner rather than later. This is important for both the baby’s skin and the environmental impact of the diapers.

Moomin Baby diapers differ from a regular disposable diaper in many ways, except for their absorbency. The biggest differences are, for example, the choice of raw materials, as all diapers are made from many different materials. The raw materials used in Moomin Baby diapers are carefully selected and meet the criteria of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation. The source of energy used in the production process also distinguishes eco-diaper manufacturing from regular diaper manufacturing. We use only solar energy and certified hydroelectric power to make Moomin Baby diapers – these renewable energy sources do not emit any carbon emissions. The heat generated in the production process is used to heat the production hall. The third major difference is the management of production waste; all waste is etiher recycled or incinerated for energy.

Moomin Baby diapers are manufactured taking into account the life cycle of the product from an environmental point of view, from the production of raw materials to the production of the diapers, the energy sources used, wholesale logistics and waste management. You can read more about our sustainability credentials here.
